We’re looking for a passionate Data Scientist to help us in our mission to create a state-of-the-art consumer-grade enterprise experience that connects, empowers, and delights our users.

You will join a small but mighty Data Science group that is bringing scientific rigor to understand what our customers and end users are doing in our products, leveraging empirical research methods to extract meaningful patterns from large data sets, visualizing that information in truly cutting-edge ways that is furthering a whole new level of empathy, and scaling our approaches to the daunting breadth of our enterprise products. In addition, the Data Science group is embedded within the larger Research organization and partners closely with the qualitative researchers, enabling an integrated viewpoint of both scale and in-depth understanding of customer behaviors. In short, we are starting a mini revolution of being data and customer obsessed and looking for someone who is excited to join us!

  • You have previous exposure to user experience or product analytics.
  • You know your Data Science fundamentals (applied statistics, quantitative methodology, and scientific programming)
  • You have deep empathy and a passion for understanding people’s behaviors, the patterns and the motivations underlying those behaviors and you thrive on evangelizing what you learn.
  • You are organized and detail-oriented. You have several years of experience using your quantitative toolkit to facilitate high quality research, applying the right methods to the right problems, and practice these in real business context.
  • You are driven by impact. You don’t stop until the insights from research are applied to the benefit of our customers and business.
  • You don’t already know everything, and you love to learn from others, new contexts and new challenges.
  • You love to collaborate with designers, user researchers, engineers, product managers, executives, and inspire them to do their best.

As a Junior Data Scientist at Oracle You Will…

  • Create and maintain optimal data pipeline architecture to drive analytics across the suite of Oracle products.
  • Assemble large datasets to facilitate a variety of analyses to understand user and customer behavior and usage patterns.
  • Identify, design, and implement internal process improvements by automating manual processes, optimizing data delivery, and re-designing infrastructure for greater scalability.
  • Help build the infrastructure required for optimal extraction, transformation, and loading data from a wide variety of data sources using SQL and Oracle technologies.
  • Dive deep into usage data to understand problem and opportunity areas for complex and massively scaled enterprise products.
  • Use your expertise in data analysis to generate easy to understand insights and communicate findings to product stakeholders.
  • Tell the user’s story through data and shine a brightlight on what works and what doesn’t.
  • Collaborate closely with partners in design and product management to learn complex domains, assess needs, ask the right questions, and understand how the analysis could move the business decision-making forward.
  • You don’t stop there. You will work with partner teams to ensure the right action is taken to further the cause of your customers and business.

What You’ll Bring: (Objective Minimum Qualifications)

  • Bachelor’s degree, Master's or PhD degree in Data Science, Computer Science, HCI, Statistics, Informatics, Information Systems, or a related field.
  • Current students (BS/MS/PhD) must graduate in summer 2024, OR graduated within last 12 months
  • Passion for User Experience (UX) Research and an understanding for why UX is important for business.
  • Strong analytic skills related to working with unstructured datasets
  • Ability to manipulate, process, and extract value from large, disconnected datasets.
  • Ability to perform root cause analysis on internal and external data and processes to answer specific business questions and identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Passionate about working and manipulating big data to derive trends, patterns and produce insights based on data analysis.
  • Solid programming skills to work with large datasets using languages and tools such as Python, SQL, R, Java, C++, Spark, and PySpark.
  • Familiarity with big data tools such as Hadoop, Spark, and Kafka.
  • Fluency with data processing packages (e.g., pandas, tidyverse, dplyr)
  • Ability to read in and write files (e.g., .txt, .csv, .json, .parquet, .pkl, .xlsx, etc.) using a programming language
  • Experience working with time series data (e.g., click history logs, eye tracking logs).
  • Experience to wrangle data / clean up datasets. For example, removing outliers for a performance time analysis.
  • Familiarity with data visualization tools and ability to produce clean, informative visualizations to clearly communicate research insights.
  • Familiarity with user or product analytics (especially in an Enterprise setting) is a strong plus.
  • Prior exposure to one of the following is a plus as well: NLU/NLP, Sentiment Aspect Mining, Data Visualization, Predictive Analytics/ Machine Learning, AI, and developing and evaluating A/B testing pipelines.
  • Able to glean descriptive statistics about a dataset (i.e., the Shape of the Data).
  • Ability to communicate effectively in writing, including conveying complex information about data analysis.
  • Front-end web design & development (Nice to have).

Responsibilities

Interacts with product and service teams to identify questions and issues for data analysis and experiments. Develops and codes software programs, algorithms and automated processes to cleanse, integrate and evaluate large datasets from multiple disparate sources. Identifies meaningful insights from large data and metadata sources; interprets and communicates insights and findings from analysis and experiments to product, service, and business managers.

US: Hiring Range: from $25.53 - $54.13 per hour; from $53,100 - $112,600 per year. May be eligible for equity.

Oracle maintains broad salary ranges for its roles in order to account for variations in knowledge, skills, experience, market conditions and locations, as well as reflect Oracle’s differing products, industries and lines of business.

Candidates are typically placed into the range based on the preceding factors as well as internal peer equity.
